THE STUDIO – New Apple TV Series w/ Seth Rogen

The Studio, co-created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Alright, this is a new Apple TV series where Jonah Hill plays a newly promoted studio head at a company called “Continental.” Bryan Cranston shows up as the CEO who only cares about making money, while Jonah plays the idealist, a film purist trying to hold onto his artistic values while being pushed to deliver billion-dollar hits.

Side note: why become a studio head in the first place and not just a writer or director?

Anyway, just wanted to say that episode 2, which just dropped, is actually a fun watch. It looks like it’s shot in one continuous take, and the plot is all about the chaos of trying to film a one-take scene. It’s meta, it’s messy in a good way, and honestly, pretty well done. Definitely worth checking out, though heads up—it leans hard into the Hollywood-insider stuff, and sometimes the jokes feel a bit forced.

But then, out of nowhere, you get these scenes that channel that peak “Superbad” vibe (shoutout to THAT scene ). The uncalled for vulgar humor and the messy situations they stumble into, only now with much better cinematography. And I think that’s where it gets interesting. That mix of glossy visuals and throwback humor hits a very specific nerve and maybe that’s the point. It’s not perfect but there’s something weirdly nostalgic and kind of fresh about it at the same time.

And somehow, that’s enough to keep watching.
